Who We Are!
 

The band was formed by the drummer Mark Smith in 2011 to be able to offer a professional function/party band with the highest quality musicians to be able to perform in the Caribbean and abroad to suit any occasion including a fully professional artist support band for tours or events and to have fun doing so.  The band name 17 61º represents Antigua & Barbuda with the 17 61º being the first part of the longitude and latitude to pin point Antigua & Barbuda on the world grid. Our band logo is made up of the National Flag Colours.

Mark  - has been playing drums for 36 years and was a professional musician for 10 years in London, he worked as a session drummer and was also signed to East West Records. He fulfilled his all time ambition of playing on Top of the Pops! Now Mark owns his own IT Security &  Electronics Company called ICE Limited.

Larry - has been with 17 61º since 2011.  He is an Architect & studied at the University of Technology in Jamaica. He has been playing bass for 20 years and aspires to be a professional musician.  He also plays for a popular Soca Artist Tian Winter.

Jemal - has been the keyboard player in the band since 2011, he is also an accountant during the day and a musician by night!  He also enjoys composing his own music.  Jemal also plays for popular Soca Artist Tian Winter.

Carlos - One of the most talented guitarists in Antigua, Carlos has been with the band for one year.   When he's not playing guitar he teaching it!

Shanna - is our newest addition to the band.  Shanna has sung in the National Youth Choir in 2010 and was the lead vocalist.  She was also Miss Antigua & Barbuda Queen of Carnival in 2019 and crowned Queen of the Miss Jaycees Queen 2019.  Shanna has spent a couple of years working abroad in Malta but is now back home where she is furthering her education at the UWI campus and continuing her passion for singing with the band.

Zan - joined 17 61º in 2014.  Zan started singing at the age of 7 and is very passionate about music.  During the day Zan works in the tourism sector at a travel company.   In 2011 Zan was in the top 10 of the GT&T jingles and song competition. In 2012 Zan was 3rd runner up in Ms Guyana Universe.  In 2024 Zan reached the semi finals of the Soca Monarch competition.
